What Are NatHERS Energy Assessments
NatHERS software tools such as Sustainability Victoria FirstRATE5 or new comer HERO can be used to simulate the thermal performance of existing or proposed homes.

The thermal performance of a home is displayed as a NatHERS Star rating from 0 to 10 Stars. The higher the Star Rating the better the thermal performance of a home.
​
Currently all proposed homes in Australia must achieve a set Star rating to meet compliance with the NCC (National Construction Code). While each state and territory in Australia have their set Star Rating, most common is a minimum 6 Star NatHERS Energy Rating.

NatHERS Thermal Performance Assessments are a performance based compliant pathway and the preferred pathway over the DTS (Deemed-to-Satisfy) elemental provisions.
NatHERS Thermal Performance Assessments allow the homes to be assessed as a whole and offer the ability to adjust individual elements of the building fabric to achieve compliance.

Whole of Home - WOH
Whole of Home is a proposed change to the NCC 2022
(Currently under review and consultation)
Whole of Home will enable accredited assessors to provide a more detailed Energy Assessment of a home beyond just the Thermal Performance assessments requirements of the NCC 2019
The proposed elements that will be considered in the NatHERS WOH are,

Pool & Spa pumps,

On-Site Energy Generation,

Cooking & Plug in Appliances (optional)
