TREES & CARBON

The Importance of Planting Trees

It is estimated that each person causes about 10 to 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide to be emitted into our atmosphere each year. One tree can absorb as much as 1 tonne of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. This means that on average, over 1200 trees should be planted per person to offset their carbon foot print.

How many trees have you planted lately?

Trees don’t just absorb carbon. They play many other crucial roles in the health of our environment.

  • Trees moderate the temperature around us by evaporating water from their leaves,

  • The roots stabilise soil and prevent erosion,

  • Trees improve water quality by slowing down and filtering rain water passing through the ground to aquifers,

  • A single mature tree can produce enough oxygen for 5 people in a year.

  • Trees provide homes, refuge and food for many species of wildlife and insects.

Trees are not just healthy for the environment, they add beauty to the landscape and provide much needed natural shade in the summer.

The construction industry is responsible for clearing forests at an alarming rate. We all must do our part to undo the damage we have already caused and offset the damage we continue to create. Planting as many trees is an amazing way to ensure our world has a fighting chance to survive well into many generations to come.

We want to start our contribution by planting 1 Tree for every assessment issued; an initiative we have just begun the journey on and one that makes us very excited and proud of.
